Harmony New Beginnings Animal Rescue (HNBAR)
Our Mission is to take in horses, livestock or other animals that have been neglected abused, or face slaughter or euthanasia. We assist these animals through proper veterinary care, nutrition and socialization to return to health. Through helping animals, we set an example of putting compassion in to action in our community.
Renegades 75 day update:
Horsonality: This guy is such a lover! He enjoys just standing with people and letting them brush and pet him. He will come up to you in the arena and follow you around even without a halter and lead rope on. Not weary of strangers or new people. He is very calm, and if something does upset him he calms down very quickly and doesn’t stay upset and spooky. He hasn’t ever spooked when I have been riding him or tried to take off. He is on the lazy side and has very consistent gates. Even on the lazy side, he has great impulsion and will move out when asked.
He halters, leads, lunges, bridles, saddles, has been ridden, trailered, picks up feet, ridden in saddle at a walk, trot, canter, backs, side steps, had feet trimmed, teeth done, blanketed, wormed, bathed, vet checked.
No one else has ridden him, but I plan to have some of my novice friends try to ride him as he is so calm under saddle!
An intermediate rider would be best for him to start off with, or a beginner rider with a trainer. I think with his calm and loving nature he has a great potential to be a beginner’s horse, I just think he would benefit from some addition training or someone who known
how to further his training before going straight to a beginner.
Horsekeeping: Stalled, ridden in indoor arena,
ridden in outdoor arena, been exposed to obstacles such as logs, tarps, dogs, kids, cars
The neighbor kid loves to ride his motorbike up and down a hill outside the arena, so Renegade is used to the noise of revving motors as well. He doesn’t seem to be spooked by loud noises
Renegade has been doing great and is very willing. He is 13 and was just recently gelded, he still is exhibiting some stud like behavior. This has included him squealing at unknown horses in the isle or being interested in what the horses are doing outside the arena. He has been making lots of improvement though and will focus back on me quickly. It has gotten to where he barely does that now with more training, so I definitely don’t think this is a long-term issue and will get better as the testosterone leaves his system as well. He
Renegade was an owner surrender and has a very sweet personality with lots of will and is very eager to please. This pairs with his gorgeous coloring.
He is father to another horse we still have at the rescue De'ago. He now is halter broke, gelded, vaccinated, had his teeth floated and has seen the farrier twice. Renegade is a white and gray, spotted pinto. He is just a doll really. I am very excited to see him progress.

Alyssa has loved horse for as long as she can remember, and started riding lessons when she was 7 years old. She has now been working with horses for 12 years and has competed extensively in 4-H and OHSET, along with being a part of other training challenges such as Teens and Oregon Mustangs. She is currently attending Oregon State University and pursuing a degree in Animal Sciences with an emphasis in Equine studies. Alyssa has been praised for her patience and calm nature when working with horses. After college, she hopes to go on to Clinton Anderson's Clinician Academy, and become a certified clinician. Alyssa exclusively uses Clinton Anderson's methods while training horses. Starting from the ground up, it works on gaining respect and control of the horse by using a variety of exercises that get the horse to use the thinking side of his brain. Combining desensitizing with sensitizing exercises, this helps create a horse that is light, responsive, and respectful, but not jumpy or fearful in any way. Alyssa is very excited to be pairing with Harmony New Beginnings Animal Rescue to compete in the 2018 Oregon Rescue Challenge
